Fundamentals: It is illegal in Montana to discriminate in any housing related transaction because of a household’s race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status (presence of children), disability, age, marital status and/or creed. Additional protections may be available in local communities.
Workshops: These workshops provide information related to the Federal Fair Housing Act as Amended in 1988, the Montana Human Rights Act and other applicable civil rights laws. Workshops will be informative for tenants, advocates, counselors, non-profit organizations, property managers, REALTORS, private housing providers, and attorneys.
Agenda Includes: Overview of Federal Fair Housing Act and MT Human Rights Act, update case law, description of Exemptions, Freedom of Speech vs. Fair Housing, Advertising, Reasonable Accommodations and Modifications for Persons with Disabilities, Design and Construction of New Multi-Family Housing, Occupancy Standards, potential penalties, Retaliation and Harassment, use of criminal records, filing complaints of housing discrimination and MORE!!
